Campsites & Kariba Ferry Bookings Online

Private camps at Mana start at around USD 500 per person per night plus transport. Whilst these are amazing places, they are rather expensive, You can visit Mana Pools and Chitake much more affordably by self-driving and using Zimparks facilities. Competent and knowlegable armed Zimparks rangers can guide you on foot for walks in the wild. The net result is you can enjoy Mana Pools and Chitake at less than one-third of the price of private camps with and Zimparks.

Zimparks accommodation options range from remote exclusive campsites, the main communal campsite to fully equipped lodges. All are un-fenced and wildlife can and do move freely through them. There is no electricity and generators are banned. Most facilities have braai places and firewood is sold at reception. Herewith a summary of the facilities available at each of the sites:

Summary of Facilities available at Mana & Chitake sites

There is no fuel & only a very rudimentary tuck-shop (rightly specializing in beer supply!) at Mana reception.  Zimparks sell Wifi access at reception and the rangers will try help you locate a rumored cellphone signal, don’t rely on finding it….

Lodges and certain sites book up over one year in advance for peak season, so it is best to book as early as possible. We summarize the options below. Please fill in our Booking Enquiry or download and mail us a Campsite Booking Form :

Nyamepi Communal Campsite

The main campsite of Nyamepi has 30 campsites with braai-places. These are serviced by 4 ablution blocks with flush toilets, showers and various washing –up areas.

Map of Nyampepi Communal campsite locations

First-timers are often concerned that Nyamepi my not be wild enough for them. You should remember that Nyamepi is one of the best-situated sites at Mana, under a forest of Albida & Mahogany trees. Sites are situated aprox 30m apart and just as much wildlife wanders through Nyamepi as any other Mana camp. It is huge plus to have hot & cold running water and flush toilets available after a hot, dusty day in the bush. Don’t worry, Nyamepi is plenty wild enough…

Just as much wildlife walks through beautiful Nyamepi as any of the more expensive “exclusive” sites, plus, you get showers and flush toilets. Drinking water is from tap-stands.

Exclusive Campsites

These remote campsites are isolated and exclusive to the party that has booked them. A maximum of 2 vehicles are allowed per campsite. Ndungu 1 & 2, Mucheni 1-4, BBC, Gwaya and Nkupe are located along the riverbanks and have long-drop toilets and braai places. Visitors sometime overlook the practicalities involved with “exclusive” sites, water-supply is often an issue. Washing water may be drawn from the river in a bucket (please watch out for crocs and do not pollute the river with soap!), treated drinking and cooking water must be sourced from Zimparks reception.

Chitake #1 and #2 are located 60 km inland at the remote Chitake Springs and have only long-drop facilities (bring your own water). The Chitake sites are very ecologically sensitive and it is important to familiarize yourself with the Chitake Code of Conduct before you go.

Exclusive campsites offer solitude but are expensive and lack facilities. you should make your own arrangements for Drinking, Cooking & Washing Water ahead of time.

Permanent Tented Camps (Elephant Creek)

There are 5 canvas permanent tented sites located on the river upstream of Gwaya and just below Stretch Ferreira’s camp (Elephant Creek 1-5). Each Tent has en-suite bathroom with flush toilet and well as a scavenger-proof brick kitchen structure with a gas freezer and stove. Tents come with bedding, cutlery, crockery, tables and chairs.

These self-catering lodges are old and basic but comfortable and clean with hot and cold running water, flush toilets, gas fridges and stoves. Lodges book up well in advance and are seldom available at short notice.

Mana Pools 4-sleeper lodges have hot water from a wood-burning geyser
8-sleeper lodges are straight out of the 1960’s but primate-proof and a lot of fun to stay in. All the lodges book out well in advance so you have to plan a year ahead.
